The Story Of Amanda Knox On The Oprah Winfrey Show - February 2010

Amanda Knox' parents appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show to share their view on their daughter's prison conviction in Italy.

Amanda Knox, an American, was attending school in Italy when her roommate Merideth Kercher was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death in the apartment where they lived together. Amanda Knox was only in Italy for a few weeks when the murder took place.

Italian authorities immediately focused in on Amanda Knox and her Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito as the prime murder suspects. The media in Italy portrayed Amanda Knox as an uncaring, sex crazed party girl.

But Amanda's parents say that the rumors are not true and that stories have been created or greatly exaggerated by the Italian press. For example, the online name that she used "Foxy Knoxy" was said to speak of her "sexual" nature when in fact it was a soccer team nickname from when she was a child.

Unlike the United States, the jurors in Italy are not sequestered and were able to read the negative stories newspapers ran.

Although there was little to no concrete evidence that Amanda Knox murdered her roommate, the jury found Knox guilty of the murder and sentenced her to 26 years of prison in Italy.

Amanda's boyfriend Raffaele was also convicted of the murder of British exchange student Merideth Kercher and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Amanda and Raffaele have been serving time in prison for two years now.

Oprah's New Birthday Puppies Lauren and Sunny!

Oprah Winfrey adopted the 14 week old springer spaniel puppies Lauren and Sunny from the no-kill shelter PAWS in Chicago. The puppies who are sisters were already named which Oprah sees a sign of fate: 

"I thought that I was going to name my next dog Lauren," she says. "So when I heard this dog was Lauren, I thought it was fate."

Last summer Oprah adopted a blonde cocker spaniel puppy named Sadie, after meeting the puppy during an O Magazine photo shoot. Sadie was a PAWS puppy and the the runt of the litter. Oprah felt an immediate connection with Sadie and was excited to bring her home.

Five days later Oprah made the decision to adopt Sadie's brother Ivan as well. Only one day after going home with Oprah Ivan came down with symptoms of "parvovirus" and soon became very ill.

Although Ivan was given the best medical care possible he died four days after being admitted to the emergency animal clinic. Oprah's little puppy Sadie also became ill with "parvovirus" and although she came close to death she recovered and is doing well today. Oprah also has two golden retrievers, named Luke and Layla.

Oprah absolutely loves dogs and has featured many shows that help pets, and encourage pet adoption like the "Puppies Behind Bars" program, and the show exposing the horrific nature of "Puppy Mills." 

I think it's wonderful that Oprah chooses to adopt her pets from the animal shelter, I adopted a shelter cat myself and it's been a very rewarding experience. Visit your local animal shelter's website for information on pet adoption in your area.

Rihanna Performs Redemption Song On Oprah's January 20, 2010 Haiti Show

Yesterday's January 20, 2010 Oprah Winfrey Show was dedicated to raising awareness for those who need help in Haiti.

Singer Rihanna performed Bob Marley's Redemption Song, and Rihanna's special version of Redemption song is available on iTunes with all download proceeds going to help the Haitian earthquake victims. You can find the iTunes link here on Oprah.com.

Rihanna will also be part of a musical Haiti fundraiser television show produced by MTV along with fellow stars "Jay Z" and "Bono" on Friday January 22 at 8:00p.m. Check your local listings to find out which stations will be airing the "Hope for Haiti" benefit telethon. 

You can help the earthquake victims of Haiti by making a donation to The Red Cross.

Lady Gaga On Oprah - The Must See Gaga Interview!

Today's Lady Gaga interview was not only interesting it was actually quite moving. Oprah asked Gaga (Stefani Germanotta) all the right questions including how she came up with the Lady Gaga name. (Turns out it's Stefani's nickname).

During the interview fans found out that Stefani Germanotta grew up in the wealthiest part of New York and went to Catholic school with Paris Hilton. She even revealed that she loves to cook.

With a passion for music and the need to break free, Stefani decided to turn herself into the shock diva Lady Gaga, and her message to fans is simply "be yourself." Lady Gaga also took a second to encourage young people to stay connected with their parents.

I was curious to see how Oprah Winfrey and Lady Gaga would get along, and was amazed to see how the two very different stars connected. It was obvious that Lady Gaga is a huge Oprah Winfrey fan, and Oprah Winfrey admires Lady Gaga's creative talents.

Lady Gaga not only has talent but she also has a big heart. She announced on today's Oprah Show that on January 24, 2010, 100% of the profits of all Lady Gaga ticket sales and merchandise sold on LadyGaga.com will be going to help the people of Haiti.

Oprah had already made a special announcement at the beginning of today's show asking her viewers to donate to the Haiti Relief fund and was pleased that Lady Gaga was also willing to help. You can find out more about helping the people of Haiti here.
