Oprah and Gayle Camping Trip at Yosemite National Park

Oprah Winfrey and her best friend Gayle King decided to go camping after a Yosemite camp ranger Shelton Johnson wrote the show telling Oprah that there weren't enough African Americans enjoying the park. Although people from all over the world visit the park, only one percent of Yosemite campers are African Americans. Oprah and Her Staff Goes Vegan - Vegan Oprah Show Video Clip

The February 1, 2011 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show was definitely an interesting one. Oprah and 378 of her Harpo staff members decided to undergo a seven day long vegan challenge. For one week they would not eat any meat, dairy products or eggs. Some of the staff was excited about the challenge while others found it difficult to give up their regular diet. I'm wonder whether or not Oprah's interest in the Vegan lifestyle has anything to do with her close friend Ellen DeGeneres.

p>Health and diet experts Michael Pollan and Kathy Preston joined the show to talk about the benefits of eating natural foods. Journalist, Lisa Ling took Oprah viewers on a tour of a meat factory and the images of the animals were quite disturbing. I've read a few of "Oprah's Book Club" book selections but I feel that her latest 2009 book club choice "Say You're One Of Them" by author "Uwem Akpan" is a particularly great choice because it's the first Oprah Book Club selection to feature "short stories."

Oprah Winfrey - Living With Less and Helping The Environment

Oprah Winfrey's Thursday June 12, 2009 show was on the subject of "What can you live without?" After watching several of these what can you live without shows I'm beginning to look at my own life differently. I've decluttered my house, I'm wasting less food, and I'm recycling more.

Oprah's "what can you live without challenges" are interesting to watch. It's almost unbelievable how addicted the average family's kids are to cell phones, TV, video games, and the Internet. It makes you stop and think about how much time you spend together as a family doing something other than watching TV.

As well doing shows on the topic of "living with less" and "frugal living" Oprah has also been focusing on topics that affect the environment. Oprah's "Earth Day" show was especially eye opening and taught viewers about the hazard of using plastic bags when she showed her audience the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch."

Oprah is not only trying to convince families that they can live well with less she is also making her own changes to help the environment as well. After realizing that Harpo Studios was spending a whopping 41,000 a year on disposable coffee cups for employees Oprah banned coffee cups for all full time employees, check out the video clip:
