Greg Smith may be in jail for robbery but he's far from heartless. The young man appeared via satellite on today's Oprah 23, 2009 episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show along one of his victims, Angela Montez.
Angela Montez feared for her life when Greg Smith stuck a gun in her face as he attempted to rob the cash advance store where she worked.
Montez and Smith began to talk to one another and even prayed together before Smith handed her over the bullet to his gun to prove to her she was safe.
Greg Smith has a fiance and young daughter and being out of work, the 23-year-old felt pressure to find a job and prove he was a man to his family. Desperate, he committed two robberies, but during the second robbery with Angela Montez realized the intensity of his mistake.
Smith soon turned himself into authorities. Greg Smith's mother, fiance, and daughter joined Oprah on today's show, where the theme was basically about "divine intervention." Greg Smith felt as though God were present the day of the second robbery and somehow spoke through Angela Montez.
Smith apologized to all of his victims including Angela Montez, Angela told Greg Smith on the Oprah show that she forgives him and understands, but that she is still traumatized by the event.
