I was saddened to hear the tragic news today that 10-year-old Shiloh Pepin had died. I am usually wary when deaths are first reported on the Internet but legitimate news sources including "The Chicago Tribune" and "AOL News" have reported her death."
Shiloh Pepin was born with an extremely rare medical condition "mermaid syndrome" and many people referred to her as the "mermaid girl."
Shiloh Pepin recently appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show on September 22, 2009 where she talked about having "mermaid syndrome" and showed off her spunky personality.
It was a miracle that Shiloh Pepin lived until the age of ten, doctors thought she wouldn't live past the first few days of life. But Siloh defied the odds.
Even though the public is well aware of her medical problems, Shiloh's death still comes as a shock. Many people have been touched by Shiloh Pepin's courage and positive attitude. Here's a video clip featuring Shiloh Pepin:
