Today's Oprah Winfrey Show featured the story of 900 pound mother Renee who died shortly after gastric bypass surgery and 800 pound Billy Robbins who's story has been featured on The Learning Channel in the ongoing documentary "Half Ton Son."
Billy lost 300 pounds after undergoing gastric bypass surgery and surgery to remove fat. He's now 20-years-old and much more mobile. He is eating healthier and planning on continuing to lose more weight.
If you've seen the Billy Robbins documentary it's obvious that his mother Barbara is a major cause cause of his severe obesity. Oprah asked Barbara if she knew that she was feeding her son unhealthy foods and she said that she did and she's guilty of loving him too much.
Billy Robbins told Oprah that he doesn't blame his mother for his weight but blames himself saying he was the one who asked for and ate the unhealthy foods.
When Oprah asked Billy what he would like people to learn from his experience he told her that when people see overweight people they shouldn't make fun of them and make them feel horrible because it will only make things worse from them. He also said that their are many roads that lead to his type of situation.
Returning guest Ruby also joined Oprah on today's show to share her latest weight loss successess. Ruby weighed over 700 pounds and has lost hundreds of pounds. She gave a tour of the Brookhaven Rehab Center which offers help to extremely overweight individuals.
