Nadya Suleman on Dr. Phil Part 2 - She Lived Off Student Loans - Admits To Being Immature

Nadya Suleman appeared on Part 2 of the Dr. Phil show interview series. This has been the most in depth interview with the new mother of octuplets yet.

Dr. Phil talked about Nadya Suleman's past and how she described herself as depressed, even suicidal in an evaluation conducted before she had children. Suleman said it was due to being unable to work.

Lived Off Of Student Loans

Nadya admitted to using her student loans as income. She admitted that she was immature and that she was wrong to try to conceive a seventh child. Dr. Phil said he sees her as a well intentioned, loving mother and woman but wonders about her Pollyanna spin on things and unwillingness to face harsh reality and how this will affect her making plans.

Living In Fantasy World

Dr. Phil said that if she doesn't feel overwhelmed than she's not in touch with reality. Because anyone facing octuplets would feel scared. Nadya says it's not a reality because the eight babies aren't home yet.

Nadya's mother, Angela Suleman, joined her daughter and Dr. Phil to share her side of the story. Angela tricked her daughter into visiting a psycologist when she was only thinking of beginning a family on her own as a student. But obviously the visit did not change Suleman's mind about going ahead with fertility treatments.

Angela Suleman said that Nadya deceived her by going behind her back to conceive another baby after the family was struggling with the six children she already had. Nadya's mother is frustrated and angry but is happy now that the octuplets have arrived.

Needs Help For Children

Suleman said that she is not asking for anything for herself but that she admits to needing help for her 14 children. She said that she would ask that the public donate physical items like diapers or carseats.

Dr. Phil said that he can not make any kind of a mental evaluation of Suleman without a complete work up but he does see a "real lack of maturity" and a "failure to view reality."

Desperate Plea To Dr. Phil

After his interview with Nadya he received a suprise phone call from the octuplet mom. Nadya was given a lengthy checklist by the hospital filled with requirements (including housing) that she must demonstrate in order for the octuplets to be released into her care. With some of the octuplets due to be released in as soon as a week Nadya called Dr. Phil desperate for help. It looks like reality might just be setting in.

Octuplet Mom On Dr. Phil - Is Nadya Suleman Addicted To Being Pregnant?

One day after Nadya Suleman's father appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show his daughter's interview on the Dr. Phil Show was aired. Today's February 25, 2009 Dr. Phil show was the most candid interview with the mom of octuplets yet.

Nadya Suleman told Dr. Phil that she believes all of the public attention that she's been receiving is due to the current financial times and because she's a single mother. Dr. Phil gave Nadya a reality check telling her that many people consider her decisions to be selfish.

Odds Were Against It

During the interview Nadia was adamant that she could not have possibly known that she would conceive 8 babies because the scientific odds were against it. Based on her past conception she thought that by having 6 embryos implanted she would conceive one baby or at the most twins.

She told Dr. Phil that if she had actually planned to have 8 more babies after already having 6 that it would have been "insane" and "beyond crazy." But she didn't think having octuplets could happen.

Addicted To Being Pregnant?

When Dr. Phil asked her if she was addicted to being pregnant, Nadya responding saying, no, she absolutely loathes being pregnant and she looked into adoption after her third pregnancy.

Dr. Phil asked Nadya why she didn't plan for her children before the babies were born. Nadya said that she'd been planning with social workers but couldn't give any concrete examples of what she will do when the 8 babies arrive home from the hospital in a few weeks.

Nadya's Career Plans While Raising 14 Children

He also asked her about her plans to finish her Masters Degree and get a job as a counsellor. Dr. Phil said the starting pay of $33,000 to $45,000 will not be enough to support 14 children and she would need at least $100,000 a year income to sustain her family.

Dr. Phil asked Nadia about the "void" she says she felt as a child and if her babies were being born with a job (to full fill her void). Nadya said that she doesn't believe so.

Will She Have More?

Nadya told Dr. Phil that she is 100% done having children. When Dr. Phil asked why her 6 children weren't enough she asked "For who?" Nadya said that it would be the "epitome of selfishness" to go through IVF treatment again.

Dr. Phil called Nadya Suleman likable and said that America needs her to admit she made a mistake. The second half of the interview, including the opinions of Nadya Suleman's mother Angela will air tomorrow, February 6, 2009 on the Dr. Phil show.

Nadya Suleman's Father - Ed Doud On Today's Oprah - Feb. 24 2009

Nadya Suleman's father Ed Doud, 67, appeared on today's Oprah Winfrey show in his first television interview. Doud defended his daughter on the show saying that he felt that Nadya's NBC interview with Ann Curry took place far too soon after Nadya gave birth to the octuplets and that his daughter should have been given time to heal before speaking publicly about her situation.

Ed Doud told Oprah that he questions his daughter's mental situation and asks that the public not judge his daughter when she may not be "mentally complete." He even asked Oprah if she would evaluate Nadya Suleman mentally if Nadya would agree to it and Oprah said that she would arrange for an evaluation if Nadya wanted it done.

Nadya's father said that his daughter was injured badly during a hospital riot where she worked before having children. He told Oprah that she decided to go back to school and it was during this time she also began visiting the fertility specialist in the hopes of starting a family.

Suleman' father said that Nadya worked to support her first four children. He also said that his daughter was not currently on welfare. When Oprah told him that she was receiving goverment assistance in the form of food stamps Nadya's father said that he did not know what food stamps were.

Doud found out about his daughter's fifth pregnancy when the fertility doctor called the home. He asked the doctor if he realized the burden that the multiple children were placing on he and ex-wife Angela Suleman and told him it was hurting the family.

Ed Doud also asked the fertility doctor if he had studied Nadya's capabilities. The Doctor seemed to understand Doud's position but yet continued to treat Nadya Suleman even after she gave birth to her fifth and sixth children which were twins.

Doud stated that he met the sperm doner father of Nadya's 14 children for five minutes one time and that he was a handsome man.

Nadya's father, who works overseas to help financially support Suleman's children told Oprah his biggest fear is that something will happen to him and he will not be able to help with his daughter's family. After seeing the interview it's obvious that Ed Doud loves his daughter and grandchildren unconditionally and will work hard to give them everything that he can financially and otherwise.

Nadya Suleman will be appearing on the Dr. Phil show tomorrow, February 25, 2009, for a candid interview. Dr. Phil will be giving his psychological opinion on Nadya Suleman as well as interviewing her mother Angela.
